Sheri Jackson
Sheri, a native of the Washington D.C. metropolitan area, is a graduate Oakwood University in Huntsville, Alabama and Indiana University where she received her Master’s of Music and studied with Virginia Zeani and Patricia Wise. She has also worked with American tenors George Shirley and Paul Sperry and under the batons of David Baker, Thomas Baldner, David Effron, Anton Coppola and Leslie Dunner. Sheri Jackson made her operatic debut with Opera Ebony in April 2013 and has been a soloist with the Aspen Music Festival; Sofia, Bulgaria with the Sofia National Opera Company, Annapolis Opera Company, Inter- Cities Opera Company, the Maryland Opera Society, Manhattan Lyric Opera, and the Washington Performing Arts Society.
She has performed major roles in the operas Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Poulanc’s Dialogues of the Carmelites, Bellini’s La Sonnambula, Verdi’s La Traviata, Puccini’s La Boheme, Lehar’s Merry Widow and Strauss’ Die Fledermaus. Under the tutelage of Mrs. Jean Carter, Ms. Jackson became the Grand Prize winner of the Marie Crump International Vocal Competition, Grand Prize and Audience Choice winner of the Annapolis Opera Vocal Competition, the Paul Robeson Vocal Competition and Finalist of the Altamura/ Caruso International Vocal Competition.
Ms. Jackson currently is a soloist at the National Presbyterian Church in Washington DC and sings with various organizations throughout the United States.
Her beautiful, crystalline voice will be featured in upcoming Alliance productions, including what we call “The Daffodil Opera” in March, 2023, as a special site-specific piece on The Spanish Steps. She is part of the in-repertory casts of The Afghan Women’s Project, Voices of Zion, and Toussaint and The Haitian Revolution (by company composer and our Music Director Miss Evelyn Simpson Curenton.)
