Synetic Theatre has been a leader in silent adaptions of classical works since 2001 and  they are now presenting works in select venues  around the DMV. These shows of The Immigrant are in Arlington at the Thomas Jefferson Community Theatre.

Synetic premieres The Immigrant, a new project from Paata and Irina Tsikurishvili based on the classic 1918 silent comedy. It is a simple, comedic story about the arrival of a new immigrant in turn of the 20th-century New York, with all the trials, adventure, mishaps, and high hopes of the American immigrant journey. As a theater founded, led, and populated by immigrant artists, Synetic considers this the perfect time and opportunity to adapt, expand, and develop its own version of story, bringing its adept physical comedy, innovative style, and great heart to the legacy of this cinema classic.

DC Emancipation and the Right to Vote

by Alliance for New Music-Theatre

in Georgetown

Sunday, April 6 at 3:00 pm
or
Wednesday, April 16 at 7:30 pm

New Music-Theatre will share musical numbers from our work-in-progress by Composer and company member Ronald ‘Trey’ Walton. This is your opportunity to experience first-hand the development process of a new work. This is part of our mission to engage the community by bringing audiences into the creative process to promote a deeper understanding and critical appreciation of the transformative power of music-theatre.
DC Emancipation & The Right to Vote is a tribute to the history of the Black community in Georgetown that came together in the 19th century, harnessing the power of the church as community, access to education for African Americans, and political activism by key leaders for DC to become first in the nation with full Emancipation (on April 16, 1862) and thereafter secured participation for African American men in the right to vote in Georgetown’s Rose Park.

WNO presents a new work by composer Mason Bates and Librettist Mark Campbell The (R)evolution of Steve Jobs. Step into the orbit of the Apple co-founder who rose from garage genius to tech titan on this operatic journey through the interior workings and spiritual journey of an innovator. His products changed the world and put instant connection at our fingertips. But behind tech mogul Steve Jobs was a life shaped by triumphs, trials, and contradictions. As Jobs comes face-to-face with his mortality, audiences will see that some things can’t be programmed—including humanity.
We have been invited by the WNO Artistic Director to attend the dress rehearsal on Wednesday, April 30 and will be joined by Mark Campbell for our post-performance discussion. We encourage you to attend this performance.

JUNE

The Untitled Unauthorized Hunter Thompson Musical

By Signature Theatre,
4200 Campbell Ave, Arlington,

Sunday, June 15 at 2:00 pm
or
Wednesday, June 18 at 7:30 pm

Hunter Thompson.jpg

Let’s get wild in this exciting new musical about the infamous author from the mind of Joe Iconis (Be More Chill) and directed by Tony Award winner Christopher Ashley (Come from Away).
A collision of politics, counterculture and rock and roll in human form, Hunter S. Thompson is impossible to pin down. Careening from the 1940s to 2005, Thompson invents Gonzo journalism, attempts to take down a corrupt president, and quests for equality for his fellow weirdos, outsiders and freaks. However, this anti-hero’s drug-fueled tornado leaves a trail of destruction as he grapples with his legacy in a world that has left him behind.
Funny and unique, as anarchic and irreverent as the writer himself, this explosive rock musical will spark a revolution for the rebel inside us all.
