Live & About - 2024 Fall Season
We had a very successful Spring 2024 Season for our “Live & About” series and we have put together another eclectic program for the Fall 2024 Season with Outings to four different productions in the DC area.
We are leading off the Fall season with our very own World Premiere of The Man Ray Project: Caesar & The Mannequin.
“Live & About” is a community engagement subscription series curated by the company to different DC area theaters and shows that represent a variety of genres from opera and musicals to cabaret and mixed-media events.
Participants enjoy the experience of attending performances as a group, expanding their appetites and critical appreciation for new forms, and supporting diverse large and smaller companies in our community. After each show, group members deepen their experience by engaging in conversation in a social gathering to better understand the deeper intentions of the show’s creators.
We have arranged the Fall 2024 Season on a subscription basis with our group discounts to four different productions which we will attend each month from September to December, offering a choice of midweek evening shows and weekend matinees.
If interested in subscribing to the series, please contact us directly to arrange payment and determine which performance you plan to attend for each Outing. Please contact us at info@newmusictheatre.org
I hope you will join us for this season.

This is the schedule for our 2024 Fall Season:
September
The Man Ray Project:
Caesar & The Mannequin
by Alliance for New Music-Theatre
at Atlas Performing Arts Center
1333 H St NE, Washington DC
Thursday, September 12 @ 7:30 pm
or
Sunday, September 15 @ 3:00 pm
Alliance for New Music-Theatre premieres The Man Ray Project: Caesar & The Mannequin, a multi-media original work of music-theatre. Follow the creative team of Composer Andrew E. Simpson and Librettist Susan Galbraith, Artistic Director of Alliance for New Music-Theatre, down a Man Ray rabbit hole to an illogical world where simmering conflicts escalate between political power and the power of art; between man, woman, and Wo-Man; between truth and alternative fiction. All the characters score points as each in turn wields violence, mockery, and subjugation against the others, while the artist tries desperately to make sense of it all.
When Caesar sings, “You can’t stick me in a closet; I will not stay there,” the work reveals that such a Caesar is prescient and dangerously relevant today as we careen into election season. Does it mean the end of the Republic?

November
A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum
at Signature Theatre
4200 Campbell Ave, Arlington, VA
Saturday, November 9 @ 2:00 pm
or
Wednesday, November 13 @ 7:30pm
It’s a comedy tonight in Sondheim’s zany, hysterical, Tony Award-winning musical romp.
With mistaken identities, wily ruses, madcap chases, a love story, and a happy ending of course, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum’s audacious and irreverent spectacle has something for everyone. In one of the greatest musical comedies of all time, three households reside next to each other in ancient Rome. Just outside their doors, the exploits of a quick-thinking Roman slave, a braggart soldier, a beautiful courtesan, a lovesick young man and others devolve into uproarious chaos in a fast-paced, witty and monumental escapade.
December
Rigoletto
by IN Series
at Goldman Theater DCJCC
1529 16th Street, NW, Washington DC
Sunday, December 8 @ 2:30 pm
or
Sunday, December 15 @ 2:30pm
Voted as audience choice for IN Series’ 2019-20 season, this circus version of Rigoletto, complete with a circus band and bawdy new English text by Bari Biern, became a victim of COVID-19, but before that, victim to 19th-century censors that found its exploration of the misdeeds of the powerful too dangerous for the public eye. At once darkly devilish, toe-tappingly infectious, and horrifically funny, Verdi’s masterpiece is made intimate, in-your-face, and inescapably enjoyable under the big top, with a cast of fan favorites returning from IN Series’ 2023 production “The Promised End,” and led once more by Emily Baltzer.
