Robert Darling

Designer, Director and Dramaturge Robert Darling worked for many performing arts institutions in North America including the San Francisco Opera and Ballet, New York City Opera, Santa Fe Opera, Canadian Opera, Chicago Lyric Opera, Miami City Ballet and many others. Collaborations with composers and librettists produced over twenty new music-theater pieces. While Artistic Director of the Central City Opera House Association he featured more live composers on the roster than dead ones. He served on numerous National Endowment for the Arts panels in Music, Theatre and Opera/Music Theatre and writing on-site reports from around the Nation. With Richard Rodzinski he wrote a report on Training the Singing Actor in America for the Ford Foundation. Elected to the Board of O.P.E.R.A. America, he co-founded the Hidden Valley Opera in Carmel Valley California developing and commissioning many new works including Hotel Eden by Henry Mollicone. As Dramaturge he worked with Sheldon Harnick and Mollicone on Coyote Tales for the Kansas City Lyric Opera. A founder of the Alliance for New Music-Theatre in Washington DC, he continues to work on an evolving aesthetic for the arts of Music-Theatre now.
